Dr. James Robert Ross, 77, passed away peacefully at his home in Collierville, Tennessee, on Friday, February 24, 2012. He was an active member of Collierville United Methodist Church in Collierville, Tennessee. Dr. Ross was a graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry and Ohio State University. He received the Outstanding Graduate Student Award while attending Ohio State University. Dr. Ross was an international lecturer on the Veneered Osseous Graft, which he developed. He was a past president of the Tennessee Society of Periodontics and the Memphis Dental Society and remained active serving as a Delegate to the Tennessee Dental Association in Washington, D.C. He received the Humanitarian Award by the Memphis Dental Society in 2000. He was also elected to the "Leadership Collierville" for the city of Collierville, Tennessee. Dr. Ross authored three novels following his retirement from Periodontal Associates of Memphis which he co-founded. He and his wife also enjoyed extensive travel to over 110 countries and the seven continents throughout the years. Dr. Ross is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lucy Welborn Ross; two sons Richard Ross and wife Marcia of Collierville, Tennessee; Glen Ross and wife Kelly of Olive Branch, Mississippi; and five grandchildren, Hayden, Hudson, Richlyn, Kiersten and Julia. He was preceded in death by his parents Lum and Julia Ross of Malvern, Arkansas. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
